Round Barrow(s) in Lancashire

Nice (suspected) Bronze Age, donut-shaped round barrow (see W.P.B. Stonehouse, The Prehistory of Saddleworth & Adjacent Areas), well worth a visit.

The site was apparently excavated by Saddleworth Historical Society in 1974. Finds included pottery shards, an amber bead and vitrified remains suggesting burning may have taken place. According to the book, no burials were found, but only one quadrant was excavated leaving it open to speculation what may be remaining.

There is space to park on Harrop Edge Lane and there are footpaths running by it.

jumping-buddha wrote: A very well preserved ditch and bank, shaped like a doughnut about 20 by 16 metre across with a clear 'doorway' on the northwest side.
Within sight of the Roman fort at Castle Shaw, it can be seen clearly from the main Huddersfield road (A 62).
In W. Stonehouse's 'The Prehistory of Saddleworth' it is listed as a suspected bronze age round barrow.
There appears to be a smaller 'U' shaped earthwork 23.5 metre to the NWW. I don't know if it's related in any way. A public footpath runs across the field within 50 m of the site.

A little while back I took a very shallow oblique aerial photo of the WWII AA position looking towards the purported "Jackson's Barrow". The WWI structures are in the lower left and the the purported barrow in the centre of the image.

https://www.webbaviation.co.uk/aerial/picture.php?/13981/category/736

The WWII position is intriguing. The right lighting conditions show two adjacent flat platforms so perhaps it was a search light or anti aircraft battery. There is alos a pillbox nearby which is listed and has an entry at Historic England

The photographs shown by 'Jumping Buddha' are not of 'Jackson's Barrow' which is not doughnut shaped nor does it show evidence of an entrance. The photographs are probably of Buckton Castle, Mossley, a Medieval Ring Work.

My name is Ken Booth and in 1974 I directed the excavation of 'Jackson's Barrow' for Saddleworth Historical Society. I currently hold all the finds. I am a Trustee of Saddleworth Archaeological Trust (http://www.sadd-arch.org.uk) and the author of 'Roman Saddleworth'.

Hello, my name is Christopher Smith planning to conduct research and field survey of the tumulus in Delph as well as Jackson's barrow as part of my A2 Archaeology coursework at Oldham Sixth Form. I was wondering if it is possible for anyone to guide me to sources of information aside from this site.
If anyone would be able to assist me in my enquiry, I would be most grateful.
    Thank you.

UPDATED INFO

The site was excavated by Saddleworth Historical Society in 1974 who thought it may have been a Bronze Age barrow, but it turned out to be a natural feature.

According to Stonehouse*, some finds were made however, including pottery shards, an amber bead and vitrified remains suggesting burning may have taken place. No burials were found, but only one quadrant was excavated leaving it open to speculation if anything remains.

The barrow is not to be confused with the intriguing-looking WWII observation post nearby.
