Ancient Temple (heiau) in Honolulu County, Hawaii.
The volcanic stone structure is one of several sacred sites within the Makua Valley.
I've read descriptions of Ukanipo being associated with burials and as being a temple associated with maternity and birthing practices.
Located within the Makua Military Reservation, the temple was re-opened for the first time since the military annexed the area with native ceremonies in the late 1990's. Archaeologist Dr. Laurie Lucking worked as a go-between the US military and native Hawaiian cultural groups to arrange this visitation of the temple. Unfortunately since then access to the site appears to have been stopped either periodically or permanently and controversy has surrounded access and the use of the area for live fire exercises.
The site is on the National Register of Historic Places. The location given is only general for the Makau Valley.
Note: See comment on religious groups attempting to gain access to sites within the Makau Valley.
