Kaneana Cave on Oahu, Hawaii, a beautiful historical location.

I was born in Maui, but we later transferred to Texas because of my dad’s work so I never really had a chance to grow up with the Hawaiian environment and culture. My family and I tried to go back and visit friends and extended family every year so I have had the opportunity to explore many parts of the islands.

As an adult I have wanted to learn more about the history and culture of Hawaii and have done some research on various ancient/historical sites and landmarks. I was super excited to come across this audio guide about the Kaneana Cave, www.liveyouraloha.com/kaneana-cave/ so of course on my next visit I had to make a plan to come and visit this historical location. I must say, I was not disappointed, it was beautiful. An important thing to note though, it is dark and slippery in the cave so it is advisable to wear sturdy shoes. Some areas in the cave have not yet been fully explored so it is best not to venture to far or go alone especially if you do not have much experience navigating inside the cave.

Kaneana Cave
Kaneana Cave submitted by Flickr : Kaneana Cave is a mysterious site on Oahu's leeward (west) coast, almost as far away as you can get on the island near where the road ends. It sits at the base of a cliff outcropping and is about 100 feet high and 450 feet deep, is estimated to be around 150,000 years old and was once underwater, carved out by the waves of the ocean. There are many ancient legends that tell about the cave's histo... (Vote or comment on this photo)
