Museum Taetae Tupuna He'e Tai is located at the western end of Taiohae village on the south coast of Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas group of islands in the Pacific.

The Marquesas Islands were first settled by Polynesian seafarers around 200 BC and their culture and language is closely linked to that of other Polynesian peoples across the Pacific as far away as Hawaii, New Zealand and Easter Island (Rapa Nui).

The museum contains a good collection of neolithic artifacts ranging from fishing weights, anchors, mortar and pestles, pounders, adz implements, adz blanks, and carved stone memorial heads. There are charts showing the dispersion of Polynesian peoples across the Pacific.

Contact details are: Rose Corser, Directrice and Jean Piriotua Director of Field Operations, BP 21, Taiohae, Nuku Hiva, Ilse Marqueses, 98742, French Polynesia. The pitcure opposite is from the front cover of the musum's illustrated guide booklet.
