Ancient ceremonial and meeting site in Taiohae, Nuku Hiva, Marquesas Group in the Pacific.

Temehea Tohua is the ancestral home of Queen Vaekehu who was considered to be the last queen or chieftainess of the Taiohae. She married another chief so reuniting the two halves of the once divided tribe. The site now contains a number of carved stones brought from around the Pacific for the First Marquesan International Art Festival. A Tohua was a large rectangular plaza with flat areas surrounded by platforms and was used for both ceremonial and meeting purposes. The Marquesas Islands were settled by Polynesians around 200 BC and have cultural and language links with other Polynesian peoples across the Pacific.
