Artificial Mound in The West. The Van Damme State Park Shellmounds are just a short walk off Highway One on the headlands in Pomo country south of the mouth of Big River and the town of Mendocino.
These three shellmounds became part of Van Damme SP with the purchase of the Spring Ranch addition.
The southernmost of the three shellmounds straddles the old property line exposed in the former pasture of the Spring Ranch with cattle fence dividing the mound across east to west from the wooded Van Damme side. Official site for Van Damme State Park
