Ancient Village or Settlement in Canada

The Ancient Village was located at where Stanley Park's Lumberman's Arch is now located. There is now a huge display of Totem Poles that are now erected. I figure that the Totem Poles where placed where they are in order to commemorate the existence of this Ancient Native Village.

X̱wáýx̱way is estimated to have been inhabited for more than 3000 years. It was one of many villages on the shores of Burrard Inlet around present-day Vancouver. The abundant resources in these lands were used by Squamish, Musqueam, and Tsleil-waututh peoples. X̱wáýx̱way was one of the prominent villages in the area, hosting many houses; each was occupied by a large extended family.

By the late 1800s, X̱wáýx̱way was the Largest Settlement in what is now Stanley Park. In the Village, a Big House or Longhouse measured at 60 meters long and near 20 meters wide. The Structure was built with Large Cedar Posts and Slabs. 11 families lived in the House, numbering around 100 people. A Large Potlatch, a Ceremonial Event conducted by Wealthy Families, was held at this House in 1875. This Event is also mentioned in the City Council Meeting Minutes, where the Medical Health Officer recommended the Destruction of the Buildings because of a Smallpox Outbreak.

With Colonial British Expansion from the East following the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1886, Vancouver started to Boom in Population. What is now Stanley Park was made a Military Reservation in 1859. The Native Inhabitants of Vancouver, including those living in X̱wáýx̱way and nearby Senakw, were seen as an impediment to development, and were removed to Reserves. This process was facilitated by the passage of the Indian Act in 1876. In the 1880s, Surveyors and Road Builders demolished X̱wáýx̱way to create the Park Drive Perimeter Road.

They did some Archaeological Digs there and had actually found some Skeletal Remains verifying the existence of this Ancient Village.

More information about village of X̱wáýx̱way, with map:
https://forbiddenvancouver.ca/blog/five-secret-stories-from-stanley-park/

Evidence shows this site was occupied for at least 3200 years. A Clovis fluted point fragment ca 10000BC has been found at Stave Lake reservoir not far away, which suggests possible concurrent hunter/gatherer presence in Stanley Park. Old Cordilleran Tradition sites, like that at nearby Fort Langley town site, have been dated to ca 9500 - 7500 years before present. Similar elevated knolls in Stanley Park may also contain archaeological evidence of occupation.
https://langara.ca/programs-and-courses/field-schools/archaeology/pdf/ARFS_Report_06March2018_edits.pdf

Recognized archaeological sites within the boundaries of the park include ancestral villages such as X̱wáýx̱way and Chaythoos, both located on Burrard Inlet, as well as un-named pre-Contact midden sites of unknown age at Brockton and Halleulujah Points which were occupied well into the late 19th century, as well as midden sites on the north shore of Lost Lagoon and at Ceperley Park.

From TheDruid-3X3: I was watching a YouTube Presentation that was a Tour of the Stanley Park Seawall when it came to Siwash Rock and the Presentation went into how the Natives Worshipped the Rock as a Monument to a Generous Man. Similar to Sumas Lightening Rock, their legends say that a man who was very generous was transformed by the gods into Siwash Rock.

I found a couple of good links on the native history of this Rock:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siwash_Rock
and
https://www.insidevancouver.ca/2013/08/22/history-of-siwash-rock/

Here is the YouTube that had the Information about its Native History that I found:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-w-32ftsp0

I've found another Link to a Native Story about Skalsh Rock:
