I have visited· I would like to visit

freedomandpeace visited on 8th Apr 2014 - their rating: Cond: 4 Amb: 5 Access: 4 This is a very spooky cave. It did not feel good for me to go too far into the cave, although I did go alone too. The next day I went to other lava tube caves that are part of Lava Beds National Monument (highly recommended), and they did not have the spooky feel this cave had. I felt very unwelcome, and I reached a point where I did not feel I should continue any further. It felt like an energetic barrier. The darkness of the cave beyond where I stopped looked like a black hole, or a black abyss, and not a place I felt good going into. So I turned around at that point. This is supposed to be a sacred site in the new age circles, but I certainly did not pick up on friendly energies here, like I have felt at other sacred sites. Not sure what to make of it. I wonder if any other people have had the same experience as me, or maybe they are just not as sensitive. It was an intense experience to visit this cave. Not sure I will be back.

Pluto's Cave is a lava tube of exceptional age in Siskiyou County, CA. Lava tubes in most parts of the world erode and collapse due to precipitation far sooner than the roughly 190,000 year old Pluto's Cave. Pluto's Cave was once one of the main feeder tubes which brought lava from the north in an underground river to the volcanoes of the Shasta valley.

Native Americans have used the cave as a camp shelter while hunting or on a pilgrimage to sacred springs on Mount Shasta. The first westerner to find the cave was Nelson Cash in 1863, who was looking for stray cattle. Cash gave the cave it's name after the Roman God of the Underworld. Which is easy to imagine his inspiration when standing in the most wide and tall portions of the lave tube, one could easily see this as an entrance to the Mythical Underworld through which a Titan like Pluto could walk through.

The first time i went to Pluto's Cave i was greeted by a large white owl flying out of two of the skylights as we advanced into the cave. I later found an 1863 newspaper article online about the cave which spoke of the nests of large owls. These beautiful birds of prey are a long lineage of guardians to this cave for far more than the 150 years of historical documentation.

Pluto's Cave is approximately one and a half to two miles in length between each impassable collapse. Most of the cave is beyond the few skylights near the entrance, so bring a really bright flash light (or flood light) because just a couple hundred feet past the last skylight it becomes so dark you can barely see your feet and the ground in front of you with a run of the mill D battery flash light(take extra clothing as well).

To reach Pluto's Cave leave Weed, CA on HWY 97 heading east for approx. 12 miles. Turn left on road A12 go about 3 miles and look carefully for the dirt road entrance on the left, marked only by silver lettering (of Pluto's Cave) on a nearby telephone pole. A short drive down the dirt road to the parking area where there is a picnic table, a little shade, and a short but rocky walk to the entrance of Pluto's Cave.

Pluto's Cave
Pluto's Cave submitted by freedomandpeace : This is where I stopped and did not go further because it did not feel right. I felt really spooked and the energy did not feel good at all. Everything in my being was telling me not to go further, even though I am an adventurous explorer. It felt like this was where an energetic barrier started that I did not want to cross.

Pluto's Cave
Pluto's Cave submitted by freedomandpeace : There are two "entrances" to the cave, due to skylights where the cave has collapsed in places. This is the first entrance, which is a little hidden by plants and shrubs, giving it a spookier feel. You go through this entrance through a small cave part, and enter outside again into a large skylight. After that, you pass into a second entrance, which is the cave that goes really dark and far back a...

Rock Creek Canyon Cave by Anonymous on Wednesday, 13 March 2019
There is an Indian cave in Rock Creek Canyon near Chico, CA, The cave is just below the ridgeline but well hidden and difficult to find unless you are right on top of it. It has a large opening but is not very deep. It was excavated by Chico State College in the 1950''s. Pictographs, mummy of a child, grinding stones, carbon on the ceiling from campfires.
