The Blythe figures in Riverside County, California were not re-discovered until the 1920's, when they were spotted by a pilot flying up the Colorado River Valley near Blythe. The figures are located on a mesa on the west side of the river. The largest of the figures is over 170 feet long. The geoglyphs were made by a similar method as the Nazca lines: by sweeping aside the darker loose rocks and soil to reveal a lighter colour subsurface.

There are three human figures, some detailed with fingers and toes. Near two of the figures are quadrupedal animals. Members of the Mohave and Quechan tribes of the Lower Colorado River have stated that the human figures represent Mastamho, a creator god. The animal figures represent Hatakulva, a mountain lion who helped in the act of creation. Although an exact age has not been determined, the figures are considered to predate European contact and are at least 400 years old.
In the 1950's the figures had become damaged by ignorant visitors as well as intentional vandalism. The figures were "scoured" following the earliest aerial photos and then fenced. Although they are best seen from the air (and can just be made out in the aerial view link on this site), two of the figure groups are on public land and can be visited.
The location given is for the most northerly human figure. The other figures can be found at (33.8004N, 114.5382W) and (33.7954N, 114.5369W).
