This Ancestral Puebloans (Anasazi) ruin was built around 1100 AD where the Ninemile Wash connects to the Puerco River. There were about 110 rooms (one story) arranged around a rectangular courtyard.

Immediately south of the ruin are wonderful ancient petroglyphs.

It was used for about 100 years before it was abandoned during a drought. It was reoccupied in about 1300 and then permanently abandoned around 1400.

The site is part of the Petrified Forest National Park.

Puerco Pueblo. submitted by thecaptain : I believe these must be the Puerco Pueblo ancient ruins. They are definitely somewhere in Petrified Forest national park, and the old photo is in my album on the same page as the petroglyph pictures! (Vote or comment on this photo)

The Flash Earth and Google Map indicator is about in the center of what would have been the courtyard of this pueblo. The excavated and stablized foundation of the western section is immediately to the left of the pointer and easily seen.
