Rock Art in Baca County, Colorado.
In the Comanche National Grassland of south east Colorado Picture Canyon contains many examples of rock art. In a cleft in the west side of the canyon is Crack Cave. In the mid 1970s it was discovered that incised lines deep in the crevice were illuminated only by the Equinox sunrise.

To protect the site, the US Forest Service has erected a locked gate. But on the Equinox, tours are given, and the gate unlocked.
Figures on the canyon walls range from abstract images to human and animal figures. Although some are post contact, featuring horses, others are considered to be from the pre-contact era.
Some controversy
surrounds the horizontal and vertical lines, which are attributed to the original inhabitants of the Plains States by most archaeologists, but have been translated by some enthusiasts as a form of Ogam left by the Celts.

The lines in Crack Cave can be seen here
along with other Picture Canyon rock art.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The location given is for Picture Canyon and is only approximate for Crack Cave.
