Berry Mound
Berry Mound submitted by baz : The southern bank and ditch of Berry Mound hillfort. SP095778. (Vote or comment on this photo)
This hillfort enclosing 11 acres lies in fields on the outskirts of the Birmingham/Solihull conurbation. The defences to the north have been ploughed out and the eastern defences have been covered with spoil from a nearby quarry. The bank and ditch in the southern sector remain in fairly good condition.

Access is via 7 stiles to cross on the short walk along the North Worcestershire Path from Major's Green).

I always felt as though somebody was watching us when we used to play there. It had quite a dark energy although it wasn’t scary. We used to swim in the quarry then play on the rope swings in berrymound

Hello,
me and my boyfriend tried to find it today but didnt succeed. How to get there? The instructions "Access is via 7 stiles to cross on the short walk along the North Worcestershire Path from Major's Green)" dont particularly make any sense to us!
Any help would be wonderful!
Thank you

I used to live near this site in the late 70's. The area is full of tales of ghostly horsemen and that no one dare enter the site after dark.

I actually did enter after dark and am still here to tell the tale! I used to spend many sunset's up there. I hear that it is on private land and is now difficult to get to.

I live very near berry mound and belong to the local history group..having worked in archaeology I am intrigued by the area. about three years back the severn valley dug huge trenches right across the whole ancient settlement..and I made the most of ferreting around down the trenches...the bham archaeologists had obviously moved in and had excavated several areas as there was something they were interested in...I myself found lots of old iron knives and blades..but no idea how old they were. but I couldnt get any info from bham although I wrote several times enquiring on what they found. It would be good if they had another dig as the arial photographs are interesting and shows a wide sttlement area. perhaps we should contact time team.!!
