Ancient Village or Settlement in Yorkshire (West)

"The monument includes a late prehistoric enclosed settlement known as Meg Dike, 150m north west of Upper Hey House. It is in two separate areas of protection. The enclosure has substantial banks and ditches on its south west and north west sides. The inner bank on these sides is typically 6m wide and 1m high, the ditch is 4m wide and 1m deep, and the outer bank is 5m wide and 1m high."

Meg Dike submitted by Northernchief : Visited 16 April 2023. Very clear remains of two long banked features, each with water at one end. Stones disturbed in banks. Great views into the valley. Visited 16 April 2023. Very clear remains of two long banked features, each with water at one end. Stones disturbed in banks. Great views into the valley. Walked right past this last year without a thought; nearly dismissed it on the map as a moated feature, but, closer investigation shows it to be a prehistoric earthwork.

If you're visiting this site, take a few minutes to explore the trees opposite on the west side of Saddleworth Road - beautifully atmospheric spot. I took a few photos there last year after a walk over to the Ringstones:
