The archaeological collection has only a few prehistoric items, the best of which is the "Gainford Stone", a cup-and-ring marked stone found in the nearby village of Gainford.

In the grounds of the museum there is a Branze Age stone which was brought there from nearby Greta Bridge. It features cup marks and grooves.

It is to right as you walk through the gates, hidden amongst the undergrowth next to the wall.

Also, Kirkcarrion ~ a hill above Middleton-in-Teesdale, a burial mound on/in which were found burnt human remains.

I didn't see either of these on the pages (though I'm a bit thick and may have missed them).

I do have photographs.
