Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Gloucestershire

Easily found by the gate through the churchyard is this once important spring. It is suggested that it predates the church and maybe the reason for its siting. It was probably known by the Romans. It was dry when I visited.

Please note. According to Richardson's description, the Holy well is behind the churchyard in "The Poor Land". It is still there, still flowing but now has a waterboard cover over it. The sites depicted in the photos by Holywell and rogerkread, which were restored as part of the parish millenium project, was actually the place where carts were washed according to the locals. The water was stopped when the springs were recently recapped to ensure the water flow into the Manor House next door. The Holy well is not marked but can be easily reached from the stile at the back of the churchyard and going left towards the entrance to the Manor House.
