Warley Edge (Halifax)
Warley Edge (Halifax) submitted by Fooki52 : This photo by Anna Best shows the claimed and I think unconvincing cup-and-ring stone (Vote or comment on this photo)
Rock Art in Yorkshire (West)

This rare find in Calderdale is featured on The Northern Antiquarian (TNA) - see their entry for Warley Edge, Halifax, West Yorkshire. TNA tell us that "it’s only one of a very small number of full cup-and-ring designs — though its exact whereabouts remains elusive. From Heginbottom’s (1979) OS-reference, it’s close to a pretty built-up area, so may be destroyed. He described it as a “large block with cup and ring markings, built into a dry stone wall,” 900ft above sea level."

August 2020. The stone's location has now been confirmed as Warley Edge Lane, but the authenticity of the markings on it has been questioned.

Warley Edge (Halifax)
Warley Edge (Halifax) submitted by Fooki52 : The Warley Edge stone, claimed as a cup-and-ring stone by Tony Heginbottom in a YAS article in 1979, looks very dubious to me, as you might also think from this photo by Anna Best taken in July 2020. The ring is scant and rough; the 'cups' look drilled to me. I have an impression that the carver was aiming for The Plough before they lost interest, or the drill bit snapped... But see for yourself -... (Vote or comment on this photo)
