Rock Art in County Durham

This rock art panel was in the Fulling Museum, Durham, understood to have been moved to the Museum of Archaeology at Durham University. NADRAP describe this panel as: "the upper surface of this boulder is randomly but comprehensively covered with cups including two which are very large and deep bowl-shaped ovals in comparison to others. One cup has a definite ring and many show clear evidence of formation in numerous peck marks to the interior surface. Some possible linear relationship to cups, line of three, a line of four. One edge to panel is very straight as if quarried.

For more information see England's Rock Art entry for ERA-1373 The Knitsley Stone, which includes NADRAP's notes, photographs and a sketch of the rock and its motifs.

This rock art panel is now located in Durham Museum of Archaeology.
