Watchmoor Wood
Watchmoor Wood submitted by Gedv1 : Southern burrow, photo taken from south. A poor photo to repesent. Better to follow. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Round Barrows in Hampshire. Two worn tumuli beside foot path above a down-hill off-road cycle course. The monuments are scarred by forestry planting furrows as well as general abuse by pulic who are unware of the nature of one of the humps they walk over. Indeed, the southerly of the two is worn completely on one edge by the footpath, and is bicycled over as a ramp.

They have both been recently cleared of the trees that grew on them, but to remove the stumps would completely destroy the mounds. The park management, West Moors Country Park will allow the stumps to rot in situ.

The northerly of the two has a deep depression caused by Victorian treasure hunters.

Both are victimns of outrageous neglect, which in part, is not too late to rectify by fencing.

Watchmoor Wood
Watchmoor Wood submitted by Gedv1 : The more southerly of the two. Note the wear by bicylces cutting the corner, and indeed it is ridden over. Seen here from the north looking south. I recently changelleged the forestry staff over its condition, as it behoves them to protect this site for future generations. He responded, 'what can be done?' 'Try chaining four logs together at each corner'. This is after all a forest'... (Vote or comment on this photo)

These two in Watchmoor Wood have now been fenced off and an information board set up explaining their significance.
