Castle Hillfort submitted by mobaypop : A wet but atmospheric day at Castle hillfort (Vote or comment on this photo)
This hillfort is situated north-east of the Wiltshire village of Broad Blunsdon (also called Burytown), just outside Swindon. Behind St Leonard's church is Burytown Lane. The site is at the end of this lane. There is small place you can park opposite the cemetery, a couple of hundred yards away from the site.

Castle Hillfort is fairly small, but well worth a visit. It has beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Some locals claim that you can see 7 churches from the peak point on a clear day. Unfortunately we went on a wet and cloudy day. The best part was, that as it's not as popular or well known as other local hillforts we were the only people there.

I can find little information about this site. The local (Swindon) government website just mentions that it's an Iron Age fort. The Geograph website states, "The fort was constructed about 600BC, however worked flints dating back to neolithic times have been found here suggesting human occupation dating back to 4500 BC."

Ros Castle hillfort
Ros Castle hillfort submitted by Anne T : This is Ros Castle seen from the gated road across Hepburn Moor. The track leading up to the top of the hill looks to be about half a mile long with a steep climb at the end, but I'm sure the views will be spectacular and I look forward to seeing these on our next visit, when the wind is hopefully not as strong as this visit. Callaly Castle Hillfort
Callaly Castle Hillfort submitted by Anne T : The Pastscape record mentions rock cut ditches - could this be one? Either that, or these are quarried crags or possibly even the foundations of what was interpreted to be old Callaly Castle. The site was so covered in trees, seeing many of the features was difficult.

Castle Hillfort
Castle Hillfort submitted by diggers92 : This is one of the easiest sites to get to that I've visited. A short drive down the lane from Blunsdon and you're there. A good view up there too, overlooking the Cotswolds in the distance. The fort lies on the slope of the hill rather than on the top, as with most. This is a view of the (lumpy) interior.
