Rock Art in Tyne and Wear

This rock art panel is also known as 'The Sofa Stone' because it was moved from a site near Belsay to near its current location by a JCB which unloaded it onto an old sofa in the farm grounds. Now placed as a feature by the farmhouse, its original site is not known, but its destruction has been prevented. Its motifs contain a number of double cups within rings, arcs, single cups, single cup and rings plus grooves.

For more information see England's Rock Art entry for ERA-578 Hollinside Farm 1, which includes photographs, a sketch of the rock and its motifs, plus photogrammetry and a VRML model.

This rock art panel is located in private ownership, sited on gravel 20m from the front door of Hollinside Farm. Please ask permission before visiting.

Note: Have you seen this rock art panel? Do you have any photographs or information to add?
