Ancient Cross in Yorkshire (North)

The probably remains of this small market cross is recorded as Pastscape Monument No. 50934, which tells us: "The probable remains of a small market cross, consisting of a hexagonal socket-stone. A 'T' section stone inserted into the socket is not part of the original shaft."

Historic England also has a brief entry for the remains of this cross, listed as List ID 1301277 which simply says: "Medieval. Stone. Base of circular shaft set in an octagonal chamfered base."

The Northern Antiquarian (TNA) also features a page on this site - see their entry Fearby Cross, Masham, North Yorkshire, which gives directions for finding the cross, a photograph and a brief archaeology & history. TNA add that in 1906 it was recorded that between the siting of this cross and the nearby hamlet of Healey. "there were formerly circles of upright stones and other relics suggestive of druidical origins."
