There has been a church in Youlgreave since as early as the 8th century. The original Saxon church would probably have been made of wood and thatch. In the year 1050 the church was granted to St Mary’s Abbey in Leicester. The building you see today was begun in the 12th century. The church contains many interesting carvings and monuments.
