Cist in Tyne and Wear

A Bronze age cist and burial found in 1873 in a quarry that is now part of elswick in the west end of Newcastle Upon Tyne. The food vessel found inside the cist has vertical lines of notched-stick impressions on the inner rim bevel and horizontal and diagonal lines on the outer. The body is covered with notched impressions in groups of chevrons, vertical and horizontal lines interspersed with chevron motifs.
