I visited this site in June 2006 and found it easy to get to and have a look at! You can reach it by the footpath which passes the sports ground where St Thomas was buried and despite being chased by some very curious cows it can easily be found. ( I've put full details below ). The water fills a stone lined chamber just below an ash tree and flows through a probably mediaeval stone front down to the river as the pictures show. A nice site and probably one of the better ones in Derbyshire, I would be interested in the source regarding the silting up. Locally it has never been known to fail, or freeze, its water is very clear and accounted good for eyes.

Directions: In the woods, on Parson’s Hill just off the footpath from Repton to Newton Solney. Taking the lane called significantly Tanner’s Lane ( from St Anne’s? ) which passes through the school grounds off the Burton road. Take the footpath left and continue on this footpath until the copses on the left hand side finish , follow these round retracing your steps and you will come to the well on the righthand side.
