attlebax visited on 14th Sep 2017 - their rating: Amb: 3 Access: 4 An outcrop of which seems to be the site for graffiti over a long period of time. Some cup type marks but of dubious origin. Some unusual markings and symbols. No doubt it has been attracting visitors all this time. Hard to tell what is old and what is new. A giveaway is when people put the date on them.
Great views from it though.
Almsliff Crag is famous, being visible from a wide area, with a mysterious well, cup carvings, and Giant Rombald folklore.
However, this article is about Little Almsliff, Almscliff's lesser-known sibling, three miles away. On this outcrop there is an odd face-like carving, of a triangle between two sun-like shapes. It looks hippy-mystical, but does not seem that recent. I wonder whether it could be Masonic.
The OS map shows a cup-and-ring rock nearby, but I could not find it.
There are splendid views across the Vale of York to the White Horse of Kilburn.
