In 1857 a storm exposed a cist burial near the south pier at Amble. A single burial, with a skeleton and an urn, were recovered.

There may have been unrecorded burials uncovered in this area prior to 1857.

In 1883 a cist cemetery was discovered to the south, see "Amble Quarry Cists"

In modern times, a third coastal burial ground has been discovered along this section of coast, see "Low Hauxley".

Re: Amble Pier Cist by Anonymous on Tuesday, 27 October 2015
In addition to the above, plus the 20+ cists found within the 'Signal Cottage' cairn there were 40+ solo cists/inhumations found around the quarrying of Pan Point, plus sand dune removal operations during the late 1800s. One of great note is the 'Giant's Cave' inhumation of a large neolithic male. Likely there is more to find in Amble today, plus much more must have been destroyed during the remodelling of the coast/harbour during the time when most of the known inhumations were uncovered.
