Cist in Northumberland
In 1883 a cist burial was found in a quarry on the coast just south of Amble, at Wellhaugh Point.

Investigations showed that there were at least 20 cist burials here. A large collection of urns was made. The site is now a car park.

Re: Amble Quarry Cists by Anonymous on Tuesday, 27 October 2015
We congratulate you at finding an image of the skull - we had no idea that there were any kind of image of any skulls existing. We've only been able to trace the beakers from the cists in Amble. We're trying to put together the fullest picture we can about the 40+ known neolithic/bronze solo inhumations found at Amble, plus the 40ft cairn that contained 20+ cists. There is a lot of confusion about the grave goods and the exact locations of the sites on the various websites that mention them - even on 'keys to the past'. But we're steadily pinning down the details. The cairn with the 20+ cists is the largest number of inhumations found in one cairn/mound in Northumberland.
