Slatepits Copse long barrow lies within a remnant of the old Wychwood Forest on the private Cornbury Estate.

Permission must be granted from the Estate Manager before visiting. The overgrown barrow is over 90 feet long and 6 feet high. Three stones at the eastern end form the remains of a chamber.

Very exciting to find this long barrow ! A lovely forest surrounds it . Close to a steep slope down . Must have looked and been an amazing place in Neolithic times without the trees ( I assume ) . Half hour walk from the road
