Hillfort in Hampshire. JimChampion: This hillfort is a scheduled ancient monument. Unfortunately it lies entirely on private land, so the following information is drawn from Hampshire Treasures (archive link) and not from first hand experience.

The Camp occupies an extremely strong position at the north end of a spur. Its defences comprise a single rampart and ditch with traces of a counterscarp bank in places. There is an additional scarp on the north side up to 2.0m in height where the site is weakest. The original entrance is onto the ridge to the south.

The hillfort is very prominent in the landscape and is covered with mature redwoods. Its southern aspect can be viewed from Hoe Lane (running from the A3057 to North Baddesley).

Toothill Camp
Toothill Camp submitted by JimChampion : January 2005. This is as close as its possible to get to the southern rampart of Toothill camp, without trespass. The rampart is quite tall, and the interior features some giant redwoods that can be seen for miles around.

Toothill Camp
Toothill Camp submitted by JimChampion : January 2005. Early morning view of Toothill Camp from Hoe Lane to the north. The area is busy with high-voltage electricity lines. The mature redwoods growing on the site are clearly visible, but its not possible to get close enough to see the defences. (1 comment)

Hi, found your artical on toot hill very interesting, as I live very near to this area and for many years now have been finding small objects from early periods in the locations you mention, at presant still researching a possible roman farmsted/villa, in the N.Baddesley area, although early days yet, with most evidance coming from feild walking and ariel photos, as I only have limited knowledge on some of the periods I have been researching your information has been very helpfull, would find anything else on N.Baddesley pre 1300's very helpfull if there is anything thanks, the field walker
