Cave or Rock Shelter in County Durham
Pastscape number 26024
In 1932 workmen found limestone rock fissures with Late Bronze Age and Iron Age pottery, an unidentified bronze item, a bone point, animal bones and the remains of eleven people. Some had been buried in sandstone cists, other remains were random. Some of the remains may have been placed in the Hancock (now Great North) Museum by A Raistrick.
This site would have been on the southern edge of the current working magnesian limestone quarry.
