Staunton Harold's ancient village
Staunton Harold's ancient village submitted by ESgt : This carved stone lies on the north bank of the causewayed lake, near the back of the Estate's church, at SK 38020 20901. It is encircled by the image of a large fish. The top surface has three circular pad areas, which suggests that it had been the base for a column or maybe a stone font. i.e. with three point suspension. (Vote or comment on this photo)

This abandoned village is visible as lumps and bumps in the ground, but with two stone built-over springs, in the grounds of the Staunton Harold Estate. It lies to the south side of the lake, opposite the church.

The stone with fishes carved around its sides, has been moved to SK3690121432. Close by the estate's rear entrance, where it now serves as a traffic island bollard. It had been at SK3801120896, near the church and the lake. All that remains there is a ring of walking-stick deep animal burrows.

Error in the location. Not SK3822128860, but SK3822120860.

The carved stone with the encircling fishes is at SK3802020901, on the bank of the causewayed lake near to the Estate's church. The three pads on the top surface look to have been for mounting and levelling a column or statue or font.
