This menhir could be found at a crossoad between two tracks, one coming from Les Grenettes towards Saint Martin, the second coming from Bois Plage en Ré towards La Noue. It wasn't far from the farm called les Grenettes and the beach "the wild Sea", la mer Sauvage.
A part of the path was given its name and also a campsite.
Legend says, that at Christams Eve the kelp fisherwomen put some bread in the holes of the stone for birds. They hoped doing a good fishing during all year. But they had to say three times to the stone "turn over or spin". The stone turned on itself three times at Christmas Eve.
The stone was made of Jurassic stone and was got stuck in the stand before being destroyed to do the path.
Not far away was the tumulus du Peu-Pierroux, also destroyed.
