Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Yorkshire (North)
The site of this holy well is recorded as Pastscape Monument No. 53241, which tells us this well used to be situated a short distance above Grimald Bridge, in a field called Holykeld-Sykes on the northern side of the River Nidd. The well is a natural spring, but has now been piped into a modern watering system, with 'no trace of antiquity about the present structure'.
The Journal of Antiquities includes information about this well in their entry for St Robert’s Cave-Chapel And Holy Well, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire (scroll about half way down their web page). The Journal adds: "today that holy spot is the Monkswell Business Park, Manse Lane. However, the last vestiges of the said well/spring can still be seen although today it is a ‘wishing well’ into which locals throw coins!"
