Hillfort in Berkshire

A possible Iron Age hillfort on Oareborough Hill is located north from Hermitage and is covered with a forest. The site was excavated in 1839 when the Roman bricks, tiles and coins were discovered. Harold Peake referred to the site as a hillfort in 1931.

In the northern part of Oareborough Hill there are clearly man-made earthworks, but they are believed to be cultivation terraces, not Iron Age defences (in fact, there are no traces of a ditch). Top part of the hill is not easily accessable, most of the footpaths omit it from the west.
