Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Oxfordshire.
In 1885 Alderman, Mr. William Ward erected a drinking fountain on the site of an already celebrated spring, next to an ancient ford.

1885. Drink and think of Him who is the fountain of life. With the consent of the lords of the manor, this drinking-fountain is erected by Mr. William Ward, to mark the site of a celebrated spring, known as Walton Well, adjacent to the ancient fordway into Colt Meadow, now called Walton Ford.

Though his intention was to promote temperance, it didn't work out that way. In 1892, a resident felt obliged to write a letter of complaint about the boys who would gather there: "The swearing and fighting especially on Sundays,is more than one can bear."
