Holy Well in Northamptonshire

This holy well was believed to have healing properties, tradition connects it with St Rumbald who lived and died here in 662.

Stonework of the well was built in 18th century, it has a niche with two pilasters, as well as a small paved forecourt with steps descending into the area where water flows. Access to the spring is not particularly easy, it is probably best to start from Astrop's House (however I did find a footpath from the SE).

Re: St Rumbald's Well by Anonymous on Monday, 08 October 2018
I’ve found a few books with small sections about this spring and Kings Sutton did have a history website which seems to have gone from the Internet now. There is a sketch of the spa ( c 1813) by Thomas Rowlandson showing the stone alcove ( the well keeper is sitting in it), people apparently queuing to get water and a sort of wooden roof ( like a traditional well cover) that seems to be over the troughs where the water flows. I wonder if there would have been a basin with spouts over the troughs? I have seen mention of a pump room at Astrop and also a possible bath/pool but can’t find much info.
I also read that the original well ( as seen by Celia Fiennes) was moved to the site in the photos. Would the water have been piped I wonder or was this another/new chalybeate spring?
Any info would be gratefully received.
Thanks for posting the photos. I was thrilled to find them!!
