Micheldever Wood Bowl Barrow
Micheldever Wood Bowl Barrow submitted by JimChampion : A composite image of the bowl barrow (can you see the seam?) looking southwards. The portion of the barrow that has been quarried away can be seen on the right. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Located on the western edge of Micheldever Wood, this mutilated bowl barrow is 25 metres in diameter and 2 metres in height.

The original "archaeological trail" through Micheldever Wood visited this barrow and an uprooted information sign remains there. [source]

The sign explains that the barrow was used on its north side as a quarry for flints or clay. It is also likely that the barrow was used as a "marker" when the local field boundaries were constructed in the 1st millenium BC - many of these earthworks survive nearby in the woods.

Access The barrow is just east of the M3, nearest parking is at the Micheldever Wood car park at SU529362. The barrow is not marked on the usual OS maps but it is identified on the "archaeological trail" signboards at the car park and at other places in the wood.

Micheldever Wood Bowl Barrow
Micheldever Wood Bowl Barrow submitted by JimChampion : Composite image of the bowl barrow during bluebell season. This corner of the woods is away from the majority of visitors (who keep close to the Forestry Commission car park) but the M3 is just to the left and provides a noisy backdrop. Update for Feb 2018 from the Forestry Commission: The archaeological trail is still present in Micheldever wood. The family trail has had an upgrade in the past year to make it all ability. The longer trail is rougher under foot and longer.

There are maps referencing the paths in Micheldever car park.
