Located at the highpoint of Leystone Ridge on Osmotherley Moor, it lies a few yards to the west of the shooters track that crosses the moor at this point. Its present day job is to mark the boundary between the local authorities of Hambleton and Ryedale Districts as well as the civil parishes of Osmotherley and Hawnby.
Similar to other boundary stones in this area, a well masoned, probably 18C stone stands next to a weather beaten stone slab which will have been the original Faber’s Stone, this stone slab appears to have a crude letter ‘R’ etched into its eastern face. The well masoned stone has its name inscribed on its southerly face, on its easterly face at the top is the letter ‘M’, which stands for “Manners” the family name of the Duke of Rutland, there is also what appears to be a letter ‘S’ on its side at the bottom of this face. On its westerly face in the centre is what appears to be the letter ‘O’ however I suspect that it is probably a weather beaten ‘D’. Other boundary stones such as that at Robinsons Cross just along the boundary line to the south are marked with an ‘M’ at the top on one side and a ‘D’ in the centre on the other.
As to how it got its name, I have been unable to determine this.
