Unfortunately, I do not think the above directions are correct. The excavation of this site was carried out by South Yorkshire Archaeological Service, 1992 and M. Parker Pearson, 1998. The reports give the map reference very accurately:- SE 5269 0196. This is in the NE corner of Scabba Wood not far from the Melton Road. It was a Middle Neolithic site yielding pottery and bones dated to 4500 years before present.

I checked the woods today and they are private property with clear "No Entry" signs.

Just north of this is Long Cairn, just to the north of the Melton Road. This chamber ed cairn is also called "King Hengist Rein". It is also unaccessible, appearing to be in the grounds of a private house.

Condition:4/5
Ambience:4/5
Access: Very easy this one unless they have added locks to the rusty old Iron fence!! I used to play down here as a 'young un' and would never of guessed that this was an ancient Rock Shelter.
Anyway access can be made via the Sprotborugh side of the River Don, simply park your car at the river bridge and walk towards Doncaster down the left (if you are going the right way) side of the River. After 5-10 mins keep looking up the embankmant to the left and you will see what looks to be 2 deep holes (I think they look like nostrils!!). The last time I was there there was what looked to be a Victorian Iron fence around the site. However this dosent ever appear to of been maintained and was in a poor state and many of the railings were missing.
Access though is very easy and it is worth it. The smoke staining on the walls and graffiti spoil it a little but there you go.
