Round Cairn in Yorkshire (North)

Located at the summit of Carlton Bank on what old OS maps called Howe moor it has both a Trig Point and boundary stone mounted upon it. This is Pastscape Monument 274588 which tells us that it is 11m in diameter and 0.8m high that is mutilated in the centre by Triangulation and in the north west by landslip, this mutilation reveals that it was constructed of large stones with a thin earth covering.

Note: This area and its surrounds on the top of Carlton Bank on old OS maps was called Howe Moor for obvious reasons as at one time there were perhaps 8 to 9 cairns / barrows in this area, the majority of which were destroyed when the gliding club was built in the 1960’s. The gliding club itself is now defunct and the buildings have been removed.
