I am not sure exactly how original this dolmen is, as it looks like it might be a relatively modern reconstruction, and is stood in a gravel area with tell tale plastic sheeting under the new gravel surroundings. I could find no information about it.

From Rubis:
At the beginning, this dolmen was at a crossroad between the two roads D939 and D111. Then it was moved to the Jardin des Plantes, museum of La Rochelle, in August 1886.

In 2001, it came back in La Jarne, but not on its first place, but in the center of the village.

Legend says that the French Fairy Mélusine was angry against the Lord of Châtelaillon because he refused to offer her hospitality. Then she ordered the destruction of the city. She took some stones in her apron to build her castle in Lusignan but one of her straps tore and some stones fell down and made the dolmen de la Pierre Levée of La Jarne.

Need to check the date the dolmen was moved back to the village - I have a photo dated 1904 showing back in the village. Maybe you mean 1901? Thanks

It stayed for a long time in a museum of La Rochelle before returning to La Jarne.
