cliffrich visited on 21st Sep 2019 - their rating: Cond: 2 Amb: 3 Access: 4 Looks like the second barrow has been ploughed out. The first barrow is just identifiable but looks, also, to have been mostly ploughed out. Sadly, the farmer is using the barrow for crops. I am aware of a usual 2mtr exclusion zone around all ancient barrows.

Round Barrows in Isle of Wight

When I visited the field was full of Rapeseed crop so I couldn't see anything! The Rape crop was around 36" high and I couldn't even see the top of the two barrows neither any bare patches where the farmer may have been preserving them. The barrows are supposed to be in the middle of the field. According to Historic England the barrows are 35m and 45m dia. and 1.25m and 0.5m high respectively. Both barrows had been excavated in 1992 and 1985 respectively. Let's hope that they were returned to their original condition! I will return when the Rape crop has died down.
