Old Wark Spring
Old Wark Spring submitted by HOLYWELL : What I assumed is the Newton Spring but it could be a land drain. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Sacred Spring in Nottinghamshire

This probably Roman spring, whose waters were thought medicinal, arises by a busy road and roundabout. Its Roman heritage is due to its being in the remains of Margidium, an Roman town. Stukeley (1776) writes as follows:
“The Roman station upon the Foss I found to be called Boroughfleld, west of the road: here a spring arises under the hedge, called Oldwark spring, very quick, running over a fine gravel; the only one hereabouts that falls eastward, not directly into the neighbouring Trent, toward Newton.”
The spring arises through a pipe which I found difficult to find as the area is very overgrown and the site may be a field drain and not the spring. They are building a new road bypass which I fear my lose the well forever.
