Marker Stone in Yorkshire (North)

Just below Loose Howe to the North East is a Grade II listed boundary Stone known as the Causeway Stone. This stone marks where the George Gap Causeway an ancient paved trod from Great Fryup Dale to Rosedale crosses the parish boundary near Loose Howe. It has its name and the date 1864 engraved on the Eastern face, the letter D for Danby on its northern face and the letter R for Rosedale on its Southern face. It is painted White on top as are all Downe Estate Boundary Markers . It is for that reason why White Cross (North) at NZ 67937 10779 and White Cross (South) commonly known as Fat Betty at NZ 68227 02001 are also painted white they too are Downe Estate boundary markers
