St John's Well (Boughton) submitted by DavidCWoods : The well is situated directly under the eastern wall, and according to the English Heritage notice board the church was built on the site of the pre-existing spring. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Northamptonshire

This spring arises from a bank just below the ruined remains of the church into a stone lined chamber. The church used the water for baptism but now it just is overgrown.

St John's Well (Boughton) submitted by DavidCWoods : The spring is apparently culverted under the churchyard to emerge beyond the eastern wall and flow into a small stream. (Vote or comment on this photo)

St John's Well (Boughton)
St John's Well (Boughton) submitted by DavidCWoods : Use of the church ceased in the 16th Century, although the churchyard is still in use, with some recent burials. The eastern end, sloping downhill where the spring is to be found, has very deep nettles with lots of spiders. (Vote or comment on this photo)
