The group is in poor condition, but fragments of ditch remaining around the barrows 'B' and 'D' suggests that the group 'B', 'C' and 'D' was originally surrounded by an enclosure ditch.

You can see them on the skyline from the bus. The bus stop is directly opposite.

The ariel photograph from 1934 is published in SyAc 1987 when Grinsell updates his account of barrows.

I find fascinating that the four are in a straight line, a group of three, then a single one. As I work my way round these groups, it is the variation which surprises me.

Needless to say, there is no evidence that they are barrows, if barrow implies burial.

The 2010 fire reached up to the barrows and as such the landscape towards the north is one of blackened earth and burnt tree trunks. The barrows have recently been fenced off by small wire and paling fencing, this is to stop any further erosion of the barrows and allow heath vegetation to regrow. There is some recovery of the vegetation that is quite noticeable mostly mosses with gorse, birch and heather seedlings.

'Terrifying inferno' hits Frensham Common by Andy B on Tuesday, 13 July 2010

Might be worth a look to see what the state of the barrows is:

'Terrifying inferno' hits Frensham Common

FIREFIGHTERS have spent nearly 48 hours tackling a major blaze which broke out at Frensham Common over the weekend.

Crews are likely to remain at the scene near Farnham for the remainder of Tuesday, damping down the area to ensure that the flames do not re-ignite.

Eyewitnesses have spoken of a terrifying inferno, with people running to safety as trees burst into flames.

Emergency services were alerted at about 1.52pm on Sunday, and at the height of the blaze there were 80 firefighters from Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex in attendance, as well as 13 fire engines and 10 Land Rovers carrying water.

Crews worked throughout Sunday night and finally brought the flames under control at 7.17am on Monday.

Although there were no injuries reported, around 35 hectares of countryside and woodland were damaged and the main A287 linking Farnham and Hindhead

Re: Frensham Common Barrows by Anonymous on Thursday, 23 June 2005
Situated on a ridge overlooking Frensham Pond with almost uninterrupted 360 degree views of the surrounding heathland and forest the site itself is certainly spectacular. The barrows lay just to the side of the main path, accessable via a smaller footpath which runs across the tops of the barrows themselves. This, unfortanately, has lead to degredation in their condition. There are four barrows, three close together, and a fourth slightly more impressive one about 20m from the others.
