This entry for Rock Art with a generic description and a four figure Grid Reference is a big ask and probably the reason nothing has been added in the fifteen years since it was submitted even though it has had 4,077 hits on its page since I last looked. However there is some information about the Aislaby, Swarth Howe area in Paul Browns & Graeme Chappels book “Prehistoric Rock Art in the North Yorkshire Moors” second edition published 2012 . This is all to the immediate north of the grid ref given. Below is a round up of what they state.
On Aislaby Moor at approx grid reference NZ 850 088 they report that Stuart Feather discovered two cup marked stones (Feather 1967,387). They themselves even after numerous visits were unable to relocate the stones.
In 1939 on Galley Hill at NZ 9275 0420 a cup and ring marked stone was found built into a field wall this is now in Whitby Museum
At NZ 8427 0836 in an area now wooded just above old quarries and below Moorcock Farm one of the authors whilst walking along an unmarked footpath in 1996 found a cup and ring marked stone. This stone approx (55 x 40 x 20cm) has six cup marks on its upper surface, one cup having a concentric ring – Presumably this stone is still there.
At NZ 84190 08929 (my gps reading) the two remaining boulders of what remains of an alignment close to Swarth Howe are deeply eroded with pits and grooves which appear to be the result of natural weathering, however some are sufficiently cup like to indicate that they may be man made.
