Hillfort in Buckinghamshire. A slight univallate hillfort situated at the northern end of a small steep-sided spur. The hillfort is oval in shape, measuring some 210m north-east to south-west by 130m transversely, and has an internal area of about 2.4ha.

The defences run roughly around the 150m contour using the natural steepness of the hillslope which has been artificially scarped to further steepen the slope and create an outer ditch, the spoil from which was thrown outwards to form a parallel outer rampart.

Sadly this large site is disappearing into obscurity, with only one short section of the bank & ditch clearly visible now. The rest is difficult to see as the site is heavily wooded, under bracken and becoming infested with Rhodedendrons. Skirted by footpaths north and south and popular with mountain bikers it is a stark contrast to the Duke of Bedford's Golf Green adjacent to the south western corner.

Yes in Summer the fort is covered in ferns, A large hill fort that must have been very important at one time, I noticed some strange pits dug within the hillfort?

In the middle of pine woods - a nice walk to get there, but some accesses involve steep slopes. Most of the ditch and bank well preserved, and there's one open aspect with a view. Suspect the fort might be more difficult to distinguish in the summer, when the ferns grow up.
