The Tumulus du Cruchaud was discovered in 1886 by the owner of the lands at that time. The owner began to excavate it with the goal of finding treasure. A skeleton was discovered but nothing else, this is what was reported at the time.
It was properly excavated in 1999 by a group of archaeologists and a booklet was published in 2003.
This tumulus seems huge, surrounded by vineyards. A path of white stones leads to it.
It can be found next to the locality of La Pierre Percée, where stands the famous Pierre Percée and next to the crossroad from the old train station of Sainte Lheurine, on the road D150.
This tumulus is 110 meters long and 30 meters wide. It is 2.69 meters high on one side and only one meter high on the other.
The tumulus is also near from the dolmen of Saint Fort sur le Né, the one of Sainte Même les Carrières, the one of Montchaude, the two of Criteuil la Magdeleine, and from La pierre folle of Saint Palais de Négrignac and the one of Montguyon.
Other tumuli have been found around Sainte Lheurine in other villages, but seem not to have yet been yet excavated, or just a little.
