Morden Park
Morden Park submitted by jonnee23 : The Mound taken after Xmas December 2004. Dubious antiquity and history, but from this angle and view one wishes it could be a barrow! (The site was sadly littered and graffitied, with the mentioned information sign at the top of the mound removed, probably vandalised.) (Vote or comment on this photo)

This mound is said to contain the remains of soldiers from the crusades. There used to be a tea shop on top of this mound. It was a view point across London when there weren't tooo many trees there.

This is a bit of a puzzle as no one is quite sure when it was built. The present feeling is that is late Iron Age/earlyRomano-British.It's large and preserves a distinct ditch. However the information plaque on top says that during the 18/19C it was truncated(!?), a spiral path constructed and it became a belvedere in a landscaped park. The views from the top, in winter, are surprisingly wide, covering much of S London. Precise dating must wait for a newer excavation.

I know this mound well as my family home is only half a mile away.
